Home Remediation Guide

What is “Remediation?”

Remediation aims to reduce mold toxins and endotoxins in the home. This remediation guide involves using a handheld fogging machine, Aerosolver solution, and wiping the surfaces of the home, all in one day.

This method isn't as effective for actinomycetes, but does have a small to moderate effect on reducing that score. Refer to the Home Cleaning Guide for proper actinomycetes care.

In this guide, the home will be emptied and then sprayed with a fogging machine. The solution being sprayed acts as a glue, capturing airborne toxins and sticking them to surfaces through the force of the spray. They will then be immediately and methodically wiped off of every surface of the home.

Wait 4 weeks for “new dust” to settle before retesting the home toxin levels.

This method is extremely effective for reducing home toxin scores and making the home “clean.”

Supplies Needed

Aerosolver Solution: https://www.aerosolver.com/shop/aerosolver-pure. This $130 bottle is plenty, you’ll likely only use 1/4 of it.

Portable ULV Fogger: https://a.co/d/55JLGsm Make sure you get a NEW fogger. You might also be able to find one locally, and it shouldn't be more than $100.

Rags: About 100 cheap rags should be good. These will be dipped in alcohol.

Isopropyl Alcohol: Water this down so it’s 7 parts alcohol to 1 part water. (Not sure on the exact percentage either. Not sure on how much to get, but get lots).

Swiffer Cloths: https://a.co/d/b2u7HIl

PPE: At least wear a face mask. A cheap full body suit is recommended too.

Preparation

  1. Completely empty the house. Only leave large items that are ok getting very humid (no electronics).

  2. With Plastic Tarp, seal off all vents/ducts and have HVAC turned off.

  3. Have appliances ready to move, so they can be fogged and cleaned behind.

  4. Ideally, you would have all the carpet removed from your home, and not brought back in. If this is unfeasible for you, give it a steam clean immediately after fogging.

Remediation

  1. Remediate room by room, having all doors shut when not used. If you’re unable to do the whole home in a day, make sure to seal off “clean” areas of the home from “unclean” areas, and do not use the HVAC system until the entire process is complete.

  2. Fogging: Pour the Aersolver solution into the fogger, and spray the room for about 5-10 minutes. It must get humid. You can use a meter to check for >80% humidity, but it’s easy to know when it is misty and humid. The fog should spray intensely across the room. Swish around the air in different directions and orientations. Spray onto ceilings, floors, walls. Start the next step while the room is still humid.

  3. Wiping: First, wipe every single surface of the room with alcohol-dipped rags. Each wipe should only get about 25 sq. ft. of surface area. The toxins will be on that rag, so you don’t want to be spreading them around. Once you’ve done a small wipe, discard the “unclean” rag into a bucket. You can wash the “unclean” rags in a quick wash with borax, before reusing them later. Now, do this entire process again. Every surface area should have been wiped twice with alcohol rags. Lastly, dry wipe every surface area with the swiffer cloths. You’re now done!

Bringing Items Back In

  1. Nothing comes back into the “clean” home unless it’s been cleaned.

  2. Smaller fabric items (clothes, pillows, blankets) that can fit in the washing machine should be washed with hot water, an extra rinse cycle, and added borax. This will rid the toxins from those items.

  3. Larger fabric items (couches, mattresses), should be steam cleaned outside of the home. More strictly, they’re likely not salvageable and should never come back into the home. Some people decide to steam clean since these can be expensive items.

  4. Nonfabrics should be wiped with alcohol rags or swiffer cloths.

  5. It is recommended to do what you can days before. For example, you can leave “clean” clothes in bags outside of the house or in a garage.
